Amy grew up in a tiny town and noticed early on her love of
paper and pen, even before she knew quite what to do with it.
Her siblings took notice of her obsession for notepads and writing
utensils and quickly mocked her as a "junk collector" -but she never minded.
Her first song was penned at age 9. From that point on she was
an avid diary keeper, falling in love with the prospect of thoughts on paper.
Jump ahead a few years and songs later and you would be at the moment
when Amy wrote her first poem at the age of 14...
I recall the exact moment, feeling, place and time...
something happened and I was hooked
She wrote from that point on, very rarely sharing her work with
anyone, but devoted to it nonetheless.
At 17 I suffered from a broken heart and that really let in a lot
of muses. The best thing about having a broken heart, of course, is getting over it. Having a broken heart gave me
the insight to write about it, I don't regret any of my grief, I thank God I
went through it.
By the time she was 23, she had written about 200 poems and started
to cons ider (more so than usual)
publishing her work.
Soon realizing that the task of getting poetry published is bleak,
she started to look into self publshing, but once again attatched it to her kite of life - a pretty bow and
proceeded, unpublished.
After a long wait she completed the process in 2006, with her first
collection of over 200 poems, Girl in
the Stars.
She has since self published over 350 more poems in six different
collections and is currently wrapping up her latest collection.
One of my favorite things about writing poetry is the
freedom in it. When I don't think too hard about the piece, when I get that familiar poetic feeling. I sit
down and I am in such a golden frame of mind, that is when it just writes itself, and I love that. I believe
that God gives us each a talent, and it is our choice to make something of it or let it fade... He gave me
writing, it makes me happy.
When she is not writing, Amy enjoys flirting with her
husband, chasing her baby, photographing life, paging
through fashion magazines, dancing until she's dizzy and baking red velvet
cupcakes.
She also finds unfound joy in telling lame
jokes.
